Print Marketing Advice

It’s that time again, the time where I share my business insights as the owner of a print company in Scottsdale, AZ. On topic for today’s discussion: the worst fonts for marketing materials.

Here at Printing Solutions, we create marketing products for a wide range of clients, from mom and pop shops to corporate businesses and your everyday joe schmoe. Consequently, we know what it takes to make marketing materials really stand out, both in good ways and bad ways.  The most important factor? Design, design, design!

In general, design can be broken down into two main categories: text and images. While finish and paper selection are critical design elements as well, text and images are the dominant players because they are the most noticeable upon first glance.

No matter how amazing your product is, if the design is a dud, chances are the response from your clients will be as well. That’s why choosing the right text is so important. You’d be surprised how many businesses choose a font that screams “boring” or worst yet “insignificant.”

To prevent that from happening to you and your marketing materials, I’ve listed the worst fonts for marketing materials – the fonts you should definitely stay away from. Think of this as a cheat sheet to branding  and feel free to refer back to it whenever you need helping deciding which fonts to avoid at all costs.

Worst Fonts for Marketing Materials

1. Comic Sans: There’s nothing funny about comic sans. It’s a surefire way to label yourself as unprofessional and immature (even if you’re not).

2. Times New Roman:  More like Totally Not Right….at least not for design. It’s too generic to make an impact.

3. Papyrus : It’s so unique looking, it’s distracting and takes away from the overall message of the design.

Now that you know better, you need to do better! Branding your business is all about creating the perfect design. Find a font that speaks to you and your company and go from there.
